Did You Know.. You, Too, Can Prevent Paper Jams?

Paper jams can occur for a myriad of reasons. Whether it's the equipment's fault or the fault of the user, paper jams are bound to happen. You just don't want them happening so much that you start calling your copier Bob Marley because "It be jammin!"

In any case, there are ways you can help prevent paper jams from happening to your copier, ensuring that your business stays up and running and your office's workday isn't disrupted because of a jammed up copier. Simply follow these steps, and you too, can help prevent paper jams:

  1. Don't Use Torn Paper - Torn paper can get stuck and/or caught in a copier easily.
  2. Try to Use Paper Quickly and Don't Open a Ream of Paper Unless You're Going to Use It - Moisture from the air is absorbed by paper, causing it to expand. Store paper in a dry, warm place.
  3. Use Good Quality Paper - Standard weight paper is at least 20lb. Also, don't mix different paper weights in the same trays.
  4. Fan Paper Before Loading It - Fanning paper ensures the edges aren't stuck together and adds some air between the sheets. Don't forget not to overfill the tray, too.
  5. Be Sure to Remove Anything the Copier Might "Eat" - Paper clips, staples, Post-It notes are all surefire ways to jam a copier in no time.
