Remembering Lew Watson

Employees at Systel Business Equipment are mourning the loss of a beloved employee and friend. Lew Watson passed away on Monday, February 26, at the age of 48. As many of you know, Lew spent his final days battling ALS. Lew was a husband, father, son and cherished friend who left behind a great legacy.

Lew was born in Lenoir, NC and attended Hibriten High School. He graduated from UNCW in 1991 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. While at UNCW, Lew served in ROTC and was commissioned upon graduation, later earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Lew had a deep love for his family, friends, community and God. Lew was a cherished member of the Wakefield community where he made lifelong friends.

Lew worked with Systel Business Equipment in Raleigh for 25 years. He was consistently the top selling sales representative and did everything with great passion. In December 2016, he was presented with the Ricoh Lifetime Acheivement Award. Along with personally signing the plaque, Jim Coriddi, VP of the Dealer Division at Ricoh, recorded a personalized video message to Lew expressing his sincere gratitude for his unparalleled success with Systel. Jim calculated what he thought was more than $20 million in Ricoh sales during that time. Ricoh also launched a new achievement award in Lew's name, "The Lew Watson Award" for Top Ricoh Sales to present annually to the sales representative with the highest Ricoh sales for the year.

In Lew's final days, he dedicated much of his time in helping in the search for a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease. Last year, Lew raised an impressive $23,811.81 for ALS research at the annual ALS Association Walk, placing first in the individual category. #TeamLew ranked second out of all the participating teams, raising $32,441.81 altogether.

In loving memory of Lew, Systel Business Equipment will continue to support ALS Research. We will sponsor The Walk to Defeat ALS on April 21st at Halifax Mall.

The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest, NC from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, March 2, 2018.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Wake Forest United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Wakefield United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or the Building Campaign (3061 Berks Way, Suite 201, Raleigh, NC 27614, or online at http://wakefieldumc.org/give/wumc-scholarship-fund/).
