A Panasonic sponsorship centered around raising awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder has close ties to the hearts of Systel Business Equipment. The Autism Sprint car, sponsored by Panasonic System Solutions Company of North America, Division of Panasonic Corporation of North America, is driven by Systel Accountant Carla McCall’s son, Ben McCall. The Autism Sprint Car will compete in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
The remarkable and inspirational story behind the car started small, by then fourteen-year-old Ben McCall, although it has now expanded into a three-state awareness campaign. Ben wrapped the sprint car with the Autism awareness puzzle design and began raising money for autism by selling a place for a child’s name on each of the car’s puzzle pieces. Soon after, he began selling merchandise and is now backed by Panasonic’s document and imaging division.
“When Ben’s mission was brought to our attention, we were touched by his dedication and wanted to find a way to supplement his hard work,” said Joseph Odore, Product Manager of Document and Imaging Products at Panasonic System Solutions Company. “Panasonic sponsored the Autism Sprint car to support the millions of children and adults who live with Autism each day. By raising awareness, we hope to educate people about a condition that affects so many and become one step closer universal understanding and acceptance.”
The car will compete in the Carolina Sprint Tour and Virginia Sprint Series, spreading awareness around Autism Spectrum Disorder to a bigger audience than ever before.
McCall’s passion for the cause continues to grow and he hopes to spread that passion with others. “With Panasonic's help, we hope to touch many more lives,” said Ben McCall, driver of the Autism Sprint car. “Watching a small fan see the car for the first time, climb into it and talk to me one-on-one has proven that this car is really making a difference. We cannot thank Panasonic enough for believing in us and what we are doing.”
