Systel Recognizes National Cybersecurity Awareness Month with Tips to Keep Your Copiers Secure

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). It's the 15th year in a row as an annual initiative of the Department of Homeland Security, which is also co-lead with the National Cyber Security Alliance.

Here at Systel, we know the importance of cybersecurity, especially when it comes to copiers. In fact, check out one of our recent blogs on copiers and the risk of data breaches.

Systel offers a variety of tools and services to arm your company against hackers. For more information, or to set up an assessment, contact us at (800) 849-5900.

In the meantime, we have a few tips below on what you can do to defend your company and business from security breaches:

  1. Keep your common copier in highly trafficked areas. This will deter unscrupulous behavior. However, copiers in more sensitive departments should be placed in a secure area and require a badge, key or other access method.
  2. Don't leave documents in the output trays. This prevents confidential documents from being accessed by anyone. Instead consider implementing pull printing or allowing print jobs to be released by users at the device.
  3. Make sure mobile connections are secure. For any copiers that allow mobile printing via Wi-Fi, be sure all mobile devices are secure on the network.
